Since 1998, , rapper Eminem has been releasing new music, which has been met with amazing reviews and undeniable dedication from fans.
On May 23, 2000 he released his third studio album, “The Marshall Mathers LP’’, which sold 1.76 million copies in its first week of releasing. This album also won two Grammy awards for Best Rap Album and Best Hip Hop/Urban Artist. But of course this was 2000’s.
With nine studio albums put out for the world to enjoy, none of them have ever had more fame than “The Marshall Mathers LP”. Lately, Eminem has been receiving hate from people around the world because of the way he raps now. People want the old “Slim Shady” back.
In an interview, Em says as time goes on, rapping gets harder and now that he’s older, he thinks he should change up how he raps. In his defense, he was once rapping about killing his mother and child’s mother. To be fair, it may be a good thing he know longer raps about that.
Even though he’s one of the greatest rappers of all time people still don’t see the message he is trying to put out.
Eminem put out his last album in 2013. As the years went on, everyone thought that his music career was over. Many rumors had been going on about Eminem putting out another album early 2017. The rumors had also led to a fake tracklist.
On November 10, 2017, Em released a single with Beyonce called “Walk on Water”. Two days before the album had been released, “Revival” was leaked online.
This album debuted number one in the UK. “Revival” features artists like Beyonce, Phresher, Ed Sheeran, Alicia Keys, X Ambassadors, Skylar Grey, Kehlani, and Pink. Even with the help of some of the world’s most famous artists, “Revival” finished 2017 with 975,000 copies sold worldwide, thousands of copies less than what his first album made in just one week.
Nevertheless, some fans still found Em’s latest album to be very enjoyable.
“My favorite feature on this album is Ed Sheeran,” said Isaiah Hilliard, a student from Westlake High School. “He’s a great artist and I think both of them together is such a great piece of work.”
While he certainly is not the same mother-killing rapper that he once was, in this album, Em touches on one of the most controversial topics in the country: race. Some critics have argued that he may actually focus too much on the topic.
Some fans, however, don’t see the album too focused on one topic. “In my opinion I don’t think he [focuses too much on race],” said Christopher Castillo, a student from Charles Carroll Middle School. “He mainly talks about how his marriage went wrong. Also how he was always an underdog and people didn’t believe in him.”
To me, while there are a couple of songs I prefer not to listen to, I really enjoy the album for the most part.
As a longtime Eminem fan, I can admit when some of his songs just don’t make the cut. “Framed,” “Chloraseptic,” and “Heat” are some of those songs.
This album talks about what Em has been through, giving fans an inside look into his deepest conflicts. Surprisingly, in comparison to his earlier albums, Em even gives an apology to his daughter and ex wife. That was a complete turnaround for fans from what he used to say in his songs.
I really like the songs “Castle” and “Need Me ft Pink”. In “Castle” is where Em talks about getting ready to have his first child and mentions all the things that he would do for her.
Another shock to fans, in one part of “Castle”, he says this will be his last album 100 percent. I was not expecting for this to happen.
While the album may not have done as well as his first, Em’s “Revival” brings stories to the fans of the man who rose to fame through his incredible lyricism.
Let’s just hope this isn’t the end of one of the greatest rappers of all time.
