2019 movies bring action and horror to screen

The year 2019 is looking to be one of the biggest years for movies since the Big Bang. 2019 is the year of “The Franchise”, as it’s loaded with movies that bust every block and fill every seat in the theatre. Now, despite most of these movies being sequels, remakes, and reboots, there’s still so much diversity of films to look forward to in the coming months. Now this is simply a list of mine, and hopefully some of yours, most anticipated movies of the year. In no particular order, of course.

1.John Wick 3: Parabellum

Without question, the first “John Wick” is a classic. “John Wick: Chapter 2” may not hold as a classic, but is still an enjoyable film that delivers  extremely intense action and an interesting plot, that you still gotta love it. In this third entry in the John Wick trilogy, John Wick essentially has to fight the entire assassin world due to his actions in the previous movie. John Wick is on his own against a seemingly unstoppable force. The stakes are higher than ever, the antagonists are much more vast, and John Wick looks even more angry according to set photos. Is it realistic? No. Is it challenging the art form of cinema as we know it? Debatable, but probably not. However this movie promises big guns, deadly assassins, and John Wick riding a freaking horse. If that doesn’t sell you on the movie, then there’s nothing else to be said.

2. Spider-Man: Far From Home

Despite the film’s ridiculous title, “Spider-Man: Far From Home” looks to be a more phenomenal movie than its predecessor. After the release of the film’s teaser trailer on January 15th, tens of millions of Spidey fans got a little taste of the film’s plot and story. With the movie predominantly taking place in Europe, outside of the more traditional New York City setting, it potentially offers action set pieces that no previous Spider-Man film has yet to do. There’s looking to be smooth mix of various villains from Spider-Man’s rogues gallery that have yet to hit their big screen debut, familiar characters from previous Marvel movies that we all know and love, and a more believable romance in this movie than in 2017’s “Spider-Man: Homecoming”.

3. Us

After 2017’s “Get Out”, everybody in the world wanted to know what director/writer Jordan Peele would follow up with. 2019’s “Us” is the movie we’ve all been waiting for. While it has a seemingly cliche premise of family vacation gone wrong, the film has a more haunting plot since the terrorizers of the family turn out to be their identical copies. Starring such actors as Lupita Nyong’o and Winston Duke, this film promises to have a haunting plot and skin crawling imagery that could prove to be one of the best horror movies of the year.

4. Star Wars Episode 9

Whether you loved The Last Jedi or hated it, everyone wants to see how the movie will conclude this new Star Wars trilogy. With the huge divide that the Last Jedi created between serious Star Wars fans, casual fans, and critics alike. There seems to be more hope for this movie since J.J Abrams, director of Star Wars: The Force Awakens, has returned for this movie. This film will possibly answer the questions of Rey’s lineage, the fate of the Resistance after their defeat in the previous movie, and whether Kylo Ren will redeem himself to the Light Side.

5. Avengers: Endgame

Finally! The movie that will answer all the questions of how the Marvel Universe is after Thanos SNAPPED his fingers when he got all the Infinity Stones. With half of our favorite heroes dead, and the rest feeling hopeless, this movie will really show everything that Marvel’s finest are willing to do to save the universe. Now, of course movies like “Spiderman: Far From Home” reveal that Spiderman will be a-okay after Endgame but Tony Stark was nowhere to be seen in that film’s teaser trailer. Endgame seems to be the end of the line for heroes that have appeared in the Marvel Universe since Phase One, like Iron Man, Thor, and Captain America. Yet it offers a rebirth of the universe, with characters like Black Panther, Spider-Man, and Captain Marvel able to take front stage.
