Spring meets Carnival season

Every Spring, the Carnival swoops in to Landover to kick off the change in weather and bring local residents excitement and joy. The carnival is made for the whole family to enjoy.

This year the carnival came back around, it was AMAZING! It was full of lights and colors and really great rides.

The main attraction, of course, is the ferris-wheel, which is so huge, it can be seen from Annapolis Road. When you get to the very top of the ride, the view is breathtaking. You can see all the other rides and scenery of the city. I can honestly say the Ferris-wheel was my second favorite ride out of the entire carnival.

My favorite ride is called “Arcticblast” which is made for two people, but the max the ride can carry is 3 people– that’s only if you’re small and nimble. All the seats on this ride make a big circle, and it gets faster and faster.  Riders of the Arcticblast may find it so hard not to laugh while being on this ride since everyone is sliding into and squishing each other, but trust me, it’s really funny.

One ride that is pretty crazy is the Yo-Yo. This ride is made up of swings and lifts you up high and spins around. If you’re afraid of heights, stay away from this ride because it’s a scary one.

For those who don’t have the guts to face the rides, there are also a lot of other games, like breaking bottles and playing basketball. Many people win the game and get prizes, but honestly those were pretty hard for me. It’s always worth a try, though– maybe your luk is better than mine.

Other than all the games and rides, the food is one of a kind. The carnival food vendors serve traditional snacks like popcorn and cotton candy and also food that we don’t get to see everyday, like big turkey legs or baked potatoes. My absolute favorites are the funnel cakes and the lemonade.

The funnel cakes are freshly baked and you can put your favorite toppings, like powdered sugar or even ice cream.  The lemonade is the perfect combination of sweet and sour, served in a cup that you can keep and take home to remember the fun time you had.

There’s no doubt that this carnival was a success. The carnival is always a great place to go if you want to take your mind off of things or if you just want to hang out with friends or even family!

The carnival’s last day was the 19th of May but be ready for next spring as it will be back with more rides and fun games!
